Thecla Bodewes Shipyards has launched and christened the Iana, the first vessel in its SALMO series, built for Transtal Shipping. This 5050-DWT diesel-electric cargo ship, meets sustainable shipping goals with 32% lower emissions than IMO EEDI phase 3 standards. ♻️ Equipped with modular propulsion ready for future fuels, the vessel features an efficient hull and low operational costs. Smart-Ship is proud to contribute to the sustainability goals together with D&A Electric by installing our products. 🌿⚡
The shipyard also shared that the Iana and the rest of the batch are “future-ready”, given that they were built with enough space to fit a future use of alternative fuels such as methanol and hydrogen without replacing the electric propulsion system. 🚀
