Our Haptic Controls
By integrating force-feedback technology in our maritime controls, we lead the way in sustainable maritime operations. Our tech enhances operator-vessel interaction for operations that are safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly, promoting reduced emissions and fuel consumption.
Smart-Ship currently offers a range of fully type-approved haptic-feedback control levers for maritime manoeuvring applications: the Throttle and Bow Thruster levers, Azimuth lever and Tiller lever.
In combination with the Haptic Control Algorithm, any kind of information from a (3rd party) information system can be translated into an intuitive and actionable advice.
Throttle
The most versatile lever for throttling operations in the market: This lever is fully type-approved and can be used on bridge and open deck due to the IP56 rating. A Standard or Bow Thruster layout can be provided for single or dual thruster operation, with custom branding (upon request), as well as various (redundant) sensor outputs.
Azimuth
A top-notch control lever with full range of motion. The Azimuth lever is type approved and can be provided with various (redundant) sensor output options for both directions, as well as custom operating ranges. The LED indicators are dimmable and can be fully customised and the lever can be branded to your desire.
Tiller
Our Rotary controller providing with full range of motion for all your control applications. Making it ideal for rudder, winch, and backup propulsion control. This Type-approved lever comes with an IP56 rating for open deck applications, as well as various (Redundant) sensor outputs and custom branding options.

Applications
Aboard your ship
Smart-Ship’s universal installation capability allows seamless integration of their products on any ship, adapting to diverse maritime needs. Their skilled technicians employ a modular and flexible approach, ensuring compatibility with vessels of varying sizes and specifications. From cargo ships and ferries to yachts and tugboats, Smart-Ship’s commitment to adaptable installations guarantees a smooth and efficient upgrade for every ship.
Remote control
Smart-Ship’s products are also a great way to enable remote controlled shipping. Through Smart-Ship’s innovative technology, captains and crew can manage navigation, propulsion, and critical systems from a centralised location, ensuring a new era of smart and remotely-controlled maritime operations. By implementing Smart-Ship’s force-feedback controls in remote control stations the operators’ remote situational awareness is significantly increased by receiving feedback on distances to object, thruster characteristics and safety warnings.
What can we offer you?
Sustainable operations
Together with partner D&A Electric, Smart-Ship is bringing a sustainable maritime future a little closer. By providing operators with feedback on how to make optimal use of D&A Electric’s innovative hybrid drivetrain technology, it becomes even easier to meet new regulations, lower emissions and reduce OPEX!
Next to that we are able to link our levers to any kind of traditional or alternative method of propulsion, enabling the operator to always use the system in an optimal way, whether the vessels uses conventional, electric, hybrid, fuel-cell or wind-assisted propulsion.
Safer sailing
Smart-Ship started by developing a system where data from both horizontal and vertical acceleration sensors mounted on small fast ships were used as an input for our haptic algorithm. Using this data, the algorithm provides real time dynamic feedback on the wave impacts and vibration dose. The operator is provided with a speed advice in the throttle lever that is generated on the basis of the predetermined safety limits.
Next to that we have expanded our system to be linked to an array of sensor data relating to water depth, GPS-location and obstacle detection, allowing us to provide operators with real-time actionable feedback regarding the safety of their operations.
More efficient operations
Furthermore, we developed a module that allows operators to always be aware of the action radius and the optimal cruising speed of their vessel by communicating a reference point in the throttle lever. This leads to both reliable and efficient operations on tight time tables while maximizing the action radius of your vessel.
